Jessica Chastain is calling out Burt Reynolds for comments he made about his famous Cosmopolitan nude centerfold. See video below.
Reynolds posed naked for the magazine’s April 1972 issue. The large photo, which deemed him “The Cosmopolitan Man,” featured the actor completely nude as he lay on a bear-skin rug. With a cigarette dangling from his mouth, Reynolds had his left arm positioned to cover his penis.
The snapshot, the first of its kind for the magazine, became an iconic image in the decades since, but Reynolds expressed his own distaste for it at a SXSW appearance last week. Speaking with AOL, the star declared, “I wish I hadn’t done that. I really do.”
“It was really stupid. I don’t know what I was thinking,” Reynolds stated, going on to recall, “As long as it was only a certain amount of pubic hair showing, then I was all for it. The only rules I had was I wanted a lot drinks before because I was a little bit — well, I have to be truthful, I was totally zonkered when we did the picture. And that stupid smile, that’s what it is.”
But the way Chastain sees it, Reynolds is upset over the wrong thing. She tweeted on Monday morning, “Burt-regret the dead bear ur posing on, never the nudity. Im all for men gettn their kit off.” The actress’ point seems to be that there’s nothing wrong with showing off your body, but overlooking animal cruelty is shameful.
